Each operator participating in the central organisation\u2019s decision-making is authorised by the members of their respective union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The assembly and the board of directors<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The highest decision-making power in STTK is exercised by its 60-member <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sttk.staging.web-veistamo.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/edustajiston-jsenet-ja-yleisvarajsenet-2021-2025.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">assembly<\/a>, which determines the key guidelines for STTK\u2019s operations and approves its budget. The assembly is elected for four years at a time and convenes twice a year. The inaugural meeting of the assembly elects STTK\u2019s chairperson and board of directors and the presiding officers of the assembly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sttk.staging.web-veistamo.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/hallituksen-jsenet-ja-varajsenet-2021-2025.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The board of directors<\/a> is accountable for STTK\u2019s operations to the assembly. It prepares the matters to be discussed by the assembly and implements the decisions made by the assembly. Each member union has at least one representative on the board of directors. The working committee of the board of directors participates in the preparation of matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The board of directors approves the results of STTK\u2019s negotiations. The office staff consist of experts in various fields who are responsible for implementing the guidelines issued by the board of directors. Lauri Kujala, the chair of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sttk.staging.web-veistamo.fi\/opiskelijatoimintamme\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">STTK Students<\/a>, also works at the office. The office is headed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sttk.staging.web-veistamo.fi\/en\/contact\/person\/palola-antti\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Antti Palola<\/a>, the chair of STTK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The experts and lawyers at the office cooperate closely with representatives of the member unions in the preparation of matters. STTK provides its member unions with training and opportunities for networking and peer support. The experts and lawyers participate in member unions\u2019 events and provide training to employees\u2019 representatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Our members<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Our members include experts and professionals with various educational backgrounds. They work in industry, healthcare and services, for example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Information about our members<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Around 74% of our members are women.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The average age of a member is around 49 years.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A member works 38.3 hours per week on average.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Their average salary is EUR 3,500 per month.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Of our members, 55% work in the public sector, and 45% work in the private sector.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Of our members, 88% have permanent employment relationships, and 12% have fixed-term employment relationships.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Level of education<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Degree from a university of applied sciences: 30%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Degree from a university: 5%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Upper secondary vocational qualification: 27%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>College degree: 31%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Other: 7%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The operations of the trade union movement are based on the principles of representative democracy.
